Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors License #65354

Alyssa is a California native who found her way to Texas to pursue her passion of counseling. She graduated with a Bachelors in Deaf Studies in 2003 and in 2008 she earned a Masters in Biblical Counseling from Dallas Theological Seminary. Since then, she has been working in private practice, schools, and at treatment facilities. Currently, Alyssa is exclusively offering telehealth sessions.

Alyssa has a deep compassion for those suffering with depression and anxiety. With her education from Dallas Theological Seminary, she is comfortable providing Biblically sound approaches to bring healing.

Also with more than a decade of experience as an American Sign Language Interpreter, and a degree in Deaf studies Alyssa is equipped to work with Deaf, Hard of hearing and hearing individuals and their families.

As with most women who have been diagnosed later in life, Alyssa discovered she has ADHD when trying to seek treatment and support for son. Pursuing treatment and coping skills for her own neurodiverse struggles, Alyssa has discovered ways to help other women identify if undiagnosed ADHD symptoms are contributing to anxiety and depression.

In addition to working with clients, Alyssa is passionate in supporting other counselors as they pursue work/life balance and healing from burnout and vicarious trauma.

Alyssa is a license supervisor and loves walking alongside new counselors as they complete their associate requirements.

Since 2016 Alyssa has learned more about trauma-informed counseling and the effects of attachment issues in emotion regulation, coping and self care in clients’ lives. Alyssa uses EMDR, and incorporates Internal Family Systems “parts” work in her practice with clients who benefit from addressing trauma and attachment issues.

While couples counseling is not a specialty of hers, Alyssa is comfortable helping clients identify their areas of struggle and find ways to engage understanding, improved communication and meaningful connection. When communication or relationship issues surpass her scope, Alyssa works closely with clients to find a specialized therapist who can address needs more efficiently and effectively.

Outside of work, Alyssa spends time with her husband of 14 years, and their two sons. She also volunteers at her church in a variety of roles from working with children to facilitating Bible studies

Description of Ideal Client:

It takes such courage to share your story with others. You do everything you can to navigate the struggles in life and find that sometimes everything just isn’t enough. You are enough. You are resilient. And I’m thrilled to walk alongside you as you discover how you want to handle obstacles that illicit emotions so strong they feel impossible. Counseling can be a place where you rediscover your best, and silence the noise that distracts you from living in abundance, love, joy and peace. My ideal client is one who is ready to take those steps into healing and freedom. One who communicates his or her desires for the future and is willing to walk through the tough feelings that arise in the process.
